Play the C major scale against a steady click, one, two, three or four notes per beat. The click stays the same; only the number of notes you fit between clicks changes.

Sixteenth notes 4 per click. Count 1 e & a. Say “wa-ter-mel-on”.
A practice routine
Start with eighth notes at a tempo where every note is clean, around 60–70 bpm. Say the count out loud while you play.
Switch to triplets at the same tempo. Make the three notes even, so the click feels like it rolls instead of bouncing.
Try sixteenths at a slower tempo. Sixteenths at 60 bpm are the same speed as eighths at 120 bpm, so lower the tempo first.
Turn off “Play scale notes” once you know the position, so you hear only the click and your own playing.
Raise the tempo 4 bpm at a time. If notes get uneven, go back down.
